A message from Nancy Brady, President of Neighborhood House:
It is with deep sadness that I announce that Holly Calvillo, Director of Finance at Neighborhood House, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019.
Holly made a deep and lasting impact in the 2 ½ years that she was at Neighborhood House. She led with a grace and kindness that made all of us want to be better and do better.
In her role, Holly was responsible for all aspects related to the financial management of Neighborhood House. She led the finance and accounting team and worked closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the Board was accurately informed to make governing decisions. She was smart and strategic, making sure that Neighborhood House was not only fiscally sound, but strong.
Holly was part of the senior leadership team, working this past year in collaboration with the Board and the other Directors to shape the future of Neighborhood House through the new strategic framework, which was passed in January. Her influence on this plan will make a lasting and positive impact for Neighborhood House and our participants for years to come.
Holly was a member of the Leadership Saint Paul Class of 2019, where she was once again demonstrating her gentle and brave leadership skills to make connections throughout the City, discussing challenging topics, and contributing toward their group service project.
When Holly came to Neighborhood House, we also got her family and over these years we’ve gotten to know her husband, Joe, who has become a member of our community. They had a marriage that was one of the most mutually supportive that we have ever seen. We’ve also received the gift of witnessing Holly’s son, Alex, grow from a child into a teenager who loves cats and Pink Floyd – we always enjoyed hearing about his progress on the guitar.
All of us at Neighborhood House will miss Holly. We will all miss her calm presence, her wise counsel, her kind words. And most of all, just knowing that she is here to help us navigate whatever we may face in the future.
Holly is survived by her husband, Joe and their son, Alex; her parents, Steven and Christine Kuklok, and Linda and Mark Chapman; her sister, Bonnie (Tim) Coyer and their children, Tad, Evie, and Jackson, and Tim Gilmore, as well as numerous extended family and friends.
