Neighborhood House regularly promotes voter registration, often by utilizing the Wellstone Center as a community gathering place. But with the addition of the pandemic, voter registration efforts will look different this year and we acknowledge that it will be more difficult to register our participants when we can’t help them in person. So we’re working harder than ever to ensure that participants are registered to vote so they can share their voice and advocate for themselves this fall.
How are we helping voters register?
- Participants can get safe, distanced, in-person help registering to vote at our Tech Help Days.
- We have a digital voter engagement toolkit with registration forms and absentee ballot applications in multiple languages, social media images, and flyers that we’re sharing with other community organizations and businesses so that they can promote voting efforts too.
- We’re distributing language-specific voter registration forms to participants in our food markets, Fresh Produce Pickup events, and weekly activity kits.
- Adult education teachers are conducting voting curriculums to help educate participants on voting in the United States, how to register and vote, and why voting matters.
- Our Vote2020 webpage explains different ways to register and vote, has helpful tips on voting safely in person, and links to language-specific voting webpages on the Secretary of State’s website.
How can I help get out the vote in my community?
- Buy a VOTE shirt and wear it (frequently) until the election! Proceeds benefit Neighborhood House efforts, and the shirt itself will remind your friends and family to register and vote too.
- Encourage your friends and family to register and vote.
- Share resources like those from our digital voter engagement toolkit on your social media profiles.
- Connect voting with the positives! Share why voting can help your community and your neighbors, rather than how not voting can hurt. A negative approach can backfire.
- Support organizations that are protecting voting rights and promoting voter engagement.
- Pledge to convince one person to vote. Research shows that they will then influence at least one other person to vote too.
Order your VOTE shirt today. Sales end September 8.
