Neighborhood House continuously works to prevent homelessness in the St. Paul community. This past fiscal year we severed 4,394 people, with 77% of families we assist having maintained their housing and remaining stable for 6 months or longer. That doesn’t change the fact that the rate of evictions in Minnesota has increased in recent months and at a time where funding has decreased. Neighborhood House is one of many nonprofit organizations who is working to get extra relief and support for renters who might be close to or are facing eviction.
Earlier this month, Neighborhood House’s Housing Stability Manager and Housing Stability Crisis Worker testified in front of the Senate Housing and Homelessness Prevention Committee to get support from other senators. This was one of the first steps in the process of requesting $2.4 million for our eviction prevention work. On March 23, they brought forth the request to the House of Representatives – Housing Committee. Moving forward our bill will be considered in a larger bill with other similar requests.
Senator Pappas is authoring our bill in the Senate and Rep. Maria Isa Perez-Vega is authoring our bill in the House with 34 other co-authors.
